Liberté et choix originel dans l’oeuvre de Sartre

One of the most common arguments against freedom as Sartre sees it - i.e. as constructing values without depending on any pre-established value - is that it can’t escape arbitrariness and boils down to a freedom of indifference. It is possible to answer these recurring objections on the basis of the concept of « projet originel », created as early as Carnets de la drôle de guerre (1939), formalised in L’Etre et le Néant and deepened throughout Sartre’s work, until as late as L’Idiot de la famille.
